Obverse description Central unperforated round boss surrounded by a ring bearing four Chinese ideograms arranged at the cardinal points, reading the reign formula for Year 21 of the Republic of China. The inner ring is encircled by a bold sixteen-pointed starburst motif whose alternating long and short rays radiate to the beaded border, giving the design a strongly geometric, art-deco character. The field between the central legend ring and the star rays is plain and unadorned.
