Additional information

Fengtien (Fengtian) Province operated its own mint at Mukden — modern Shenyang — under the late Qing administration of Manchuria, issuing silver coinage largely to stabilize commerce in a region under increasing pressure from both Russian and Japanese imperial ambitions. The half-jiao denomination was the smallest silver unit in the provincial series, struck in very limited quantities. Surviving examples in any grade are scarce; the denomination saw little demand relative to larger silver, and the Mukden mint's output was modest compared to the major coastal provincial facilities.
