Obverse description Central circle encloses the ornate imperial toughra of Mahmud II, surrounded by an elaborate border of alternating floral rosettes and oval cartouches forming a decorative ring. The toughra, rendered in fine Arabic calligraphy, dominates the field and serves as the principal design element. The overall composition is characteristic of the Ottoman milled gold coinage of the early nineteenth century, combining calligraphic artistry with a regularised geometric framework.
