Obverse description Crowned and armored bust of Emperor Maximilian II facing right, wearing an elaborately decorated breastplate with ruffled collar, and holding an orb surmounted by a cross in his right hand. The imperial crown sits atop the bust. A beaded inner circle frames the effigy, with the circumferential Latin legend reading MAXIMILIANVS II D G ROM IMP SEMP AVG GER HVN BOH REX running along the outer border between a rope-pattern rim and the beaded circle.

Reverse description Crowned double-headed imperial eagle displayed in the field, its wings spread wide, bearing on its breast a quartered shield of arms displaying the Habsburg hereditary lands.
