Obverse description Within a beaded inner circle, the crowned lion of Zürich rampant to the right, holding the city's heraldic shield — diagonally divided with a diagonal bend — in its forepaws. The lion is rendered in bold relief in the Baroque style characteristic of mid-17th-century Swiss cantonal coinage. The circumscription MONETA NOVA THVRICENSIS ('New Money of Zürich') runs in Latin capitals around the field between the inner beaded border and an outer toothed or milled rim.
