Obverse description Full-length facing figure of Saint Philip, nimbed and standing, holding a cross in his right hand and a book (bible) in his left hand. Before him are the crowned arms of Austria-Burgundy-Brabant, rendered in the Flemish Gothic style characteristic of early sixteenth-century Netherlandish coinage. The saint's robes are depicted with fine drapery detail typical of hammered goldsmithing of the period. A beaded inner circle frames the central design, and the surrounding Latin legend, terminating with the mint mark, runs within the outer field.
