Obverse description Central device comprises the quartered shield of Oldenburg arms, displaying the characteristic horizontal bars of the county, set within a beaded inner circle. The shield is rendered in a plain, Gothic heraldic style typical of early sixteenth-century north German coinage. A circular Latin legend surrounds the inner circle, reading the name and title of Count John V. The flan is irregular, consistent with hammered production of the period.
