Obverse description Facing bust of Saint Peter rendered in a bold, archaic medieval style, depicted with short curly hair and a full beard, enclosed within a plain inner circle with beaded border. The facial features are strongly modelled with prominent eyes and nose. The surrounding outer legend reads SANCTVS PETRVS in Gothic capital letters, separated by floral or foliate ornaments, within a toothed or crenellated outer rim characteristic of 13th-century Italian hammered coinage.
