Obverse description Central field displays the papal coat of arms of Clement IX (Rospigliosi family), featuring a quartered shield bearing diagonal lozenges, surmounted by the papal tiara and crossed keys of Saint Peter, with the keys suspended on either side. The shield varies in form across emission types (polygonal, semi-oval, or polygonal with retracted foot). The circular Latin legend reads CLEM٠IX٠PONT٠MAX around the periphery, interrupted by the shield. The coin's border is formed by a continuous beaded or toothed rim.
