Obverse description Central field features the arms of Cardinal Antonio Barberini, Camerlengo of the Holy Roman Church, displayed on a heraldic shield surmounted by the papal tiara and crossed keys of Saint Peter — the emblems of the Apostolic Camera during the sede vacante period. The shield bears the Barberini family device of three bees. The entire composition is framed by a beaded border, with the circular Latin legend divided on either side of the central device reading SEDE VACANTE, denoting the vacancy of the Holy See following the death of Pope Innocent X in 1655.
