Obverse description Central field dominated by the papal coat of arms of Alexander VII (Fabio Chigi), depicting a shield charged with six monti (hills) arranged in a triangular formation below a central star, surmounted by the papal tiara and crossed keys of Saint Peter. The arms are rendered in a restrained baroque style typical of mid-17th century Roman hammered coinage. A beaded inner circle frames the design, with the circular legend reading PONT MAX ALEX VII distributed around the periphery. The overall composition is characteristic of Papal States minor silver coinage of the period.
