| Additional information |
Ragusa maintained its independence through careful neutrality and diplomatic agility for centuries, but by the 1790s the republic was feeling the pressure of Napoleonic upheaval across the Adriatic. This small copper issue appeared in the final decade before Napoleon's troops effectively ended Ragusan sovereignty in 1806, when the republic was dissolved by Marshal Marmont and absorbed into the French Illyrian Provinces.
The "Poludinarić" designation reflects the hybrid monetary vocabulary of a city-state straddling Venetian, Ottoman, and central European commercial networks simultaneously.
