| Reverse description | A bold Greek cross divides the reverse field into four quarters, each containing a pair of crossed papal keys, the traditional symbol of the apostolic authority of the Holy See. The keys are depicted in alternating orientations within each canton, following the heraldic convention of the period. A Latin legend naming the papal legate and the seat of Avignon runs along the periphery within a beaded border. The overall design is characteristic of the hammered silver coinage struck under the authority of the cardinal legate of Avignon during the pontificate of Paul IV. |
