| Reverse description | Crowned quartered heraldic shield displaying the complex composite arms of Philip II as King of Spain and Count of Holland, incorporating the castles and lions of Castile and León, the vertical stripes of Aragon, the chains of Navarre, and the pomegranate of Granada, among other quarters. The shield is surmounted by an elaborate royal crown with prominent fleurons. A full circular Latin legend surrounds the arms, identifying the ruler as Philip, by the grace of God, King of Spain and Count of Holland, with the legend terminating at a mint mark in the form of a floral ornament. The overall design is characteristic of the high-quality Spanish Netherlands hammered gold coinage of the period. |
