| Reverse description | Crowned sixteen-fold quartered arms of Charles V within a beaded inner circle, the shield surmounted by an imperial crown of elaborate design. The numerous heraldic quarterings represent the full extent of the Habsburg and Burgundian territorial claims, struck in crisp hammered relief typical of the Flemish mint tradition. The surrounding Latin legend, reading clockwise, forms a devotional invocation and is separated from the inner circle by a plain field. The reverse composition mirrors the obverse in its heraldic ambition and careful execution, attesting to the prestige coinage standards of the Antwerp and Maastricht mints. |
