| Obverse description | Central field depicts a rampant lion of Brabant facing left, positioned beneath a crowned gothic architectural canopy flanked by two ornate pillars with decorative finials. The composition reflects the heraldic lion type characteristic of the Southern Netherlands gold coinage of the late sixteenth century. A continuous beaded inner border frames the central device. The surrounding legend reads ANTIQVA · VIRTVTE · ET · FIDE · · MO · BRA ·, translating as 'By ancient virtue and faith — coinage of Brabant', rendered in Gothic lettering between two concentric beaded borders. |
