Obverse description Central field occupied by the crowned royal arms of France, displaying three fleurs-de-lis arranged two-and-one on a plain shield, surmounted by an elaborate royal crown with fleurons and pearls. The shield is flanked on either side by a porcupine passant, the personal badge of Louis XII, rendered in fine relief. The surrounding legend in uncial Gothic characters runs along the coin's edge within a beaded inner circle.
