| Reverse description | The reverse displays a floriated cross formed by four interlaced double Hs crowned, the monogram of Henry IV, with fleurs-de-lis ornamenting the terminals of each arm and a crown surmounting the whole device at the top. The central interlacing creates an intricate decorative knot characteristic of Valois-Bourbon transitional royal coinage. Surrounding the cross is the Latin legend CHRISTVS REGNAT VINCIT ET IMPERAT, meaning 'Christ reigns, conquers, and commands,' followed by the mint letter A for Paris. A beaded border encircles the entire composition, consistent with the hammered technique used throughout this issue. |
