Obverse description Central field displays the crowned royal arms of France — an ornate shield semé of fleurs-de-lis — surmounted by a large floral crown rendered in high relief, characteristic of the French Renaissance hammered coinage style. The mint mark letter appears at the base of the shield within the inner field. The design is enclosed within a beaded inner circle, with the Latin royal legend disposed around the periphery between two raised borders.
