| Obverse lettering | VRBANVS VIII PONT MAX 1637 (Translation: Urban VIII sovereign pontiff.) |
| Reverse description | An ornate fleurdelisée cross with elaborate foliate and scroll decoration occupies the central field, its four arms terminating in stylised fleurs-de-lis and further embellished with curling acanthus-like flourishes at each angle. A small mint mark or letter appears at the base of the cross. The whole design is enclosed within a beaded inner circle. The surrounding legend, reading ANTONIVS CARD BARBERINVS LE AVE, identifies the cardinal-legate Anthony Barberini and the city of Avignon. |
