Reverse description A large floriated cross with elaborate fleur-de-lis terminals fills the central field, with a crowned royal cipher H at the intersection of the arms. The cross is highly stylized in the Renaissance manner characteristic of Béarn provincial issues. The surrounding legend, contained within a beaded circle, reads GRATIA DEI SVM Q D SVM followed by the date 160Z, the final Z being the period convention for the numeral 2. The overall design reflects the standard demi-franc type established under Henry IV for his Béarn territories.
