Obverse description Draped and armored laureate bust of Henry IV facing right, wearing a ruffled collar, the portrait rendered in the style typical of late 16th-century French royal coinage. The royal effigy is surrounded by a circular Latin legend reading HENRICVS IIII D G FRANC ET NAVA REX BD, identifying the king as Henry IV, by the grace of God, King of France and Navarre, with the mint mark BD for Morlaàs. The bust displays fine engraving detail in the hair and collar despite the hammered production technique.
