Obverse description Bare-headed, bearded bust of Maximilien de Béthune in right profile, wearing a ruffled lace collar characteristic of early 17th-century French court dress. The portrait is rendered in high relief with considerable naturalistic detail in the facial features and costume. A beaded inner circle frames the effigy, separating it from the peripheral Latin legend. The circumferential inscription reads: MAXI D BETHVNE P S D HENRIC ET BOIB, identifying the issuer as Maximilien de Béthune, Sovereign Prince of Henrichemont and Boisbelle. A small floral ornament serves as the legend's starting stop.
