Additional information

Murtaza II was a child sultan installed by the powerful regent and general Miyan Manju, who held effective control of Ahmadnagar through most of this issue's production window. The sultanate was simultaneously fighting off Mughal encroachment — Akbar's forces had already besieged Ahmadnagar Fort in 1595, a campaign famously resisted by Chand Bibi. Coinage from this reign reflects administrative continuity maintained by regents rather than any coherent royal monetary policy.

KM#10.1 is the heavier of the two catalogued half-falus varieties for this reign.
