Obverse description Central device consisting of a radiant sun with a human face in full relief at the centre, emitting alternating straight and wavy rays that fill the field. Seven five-pointed stars are arranged in an arc above the sun, flanking it on either side. The circular legend reads REPUB. SUD PERUANA around the upper periphery, with CUZ. AÑO D. 1838 around the lower periphery, all separated by dot stops. The coin is struck within a fine beaded border.
