Obverse description Armored and draped bust of Louis XIV facing right, wearing a flowing curled wig, with elaborately engraved pauldron and gorget visible at the truncation. The royal effigy is rendered in high relief in the Baroque court style. The circular Latin legend runs along the toothed border, reading LVD•XIIII•D.G FR•ET•NAV•REX, identifying the king as Louis XIV, by the grace of God King of France and Navarre.
