| Obverse description | Draped bust of Louis XV facing right, wearing a flowing periwig with elaborate curled locks falling to the shoulders and an ermine-lined mantle clasped at the chest bearing the badge of the Order of the Holy Spirit. The effigy is rendered in high relief in the Baroque court style engraved by Joseph Roëttiers. The circular Latin legend reads LUD • XV • D • G • FR • ET • NAV • REX •, identifying the king as Louis XV by the Grace of God King of France and Navarre. The rim is bordered by a fine toothed inner circle. |
