| Obverse description | Armored and draped bust of Philip II of Spain facing right, wearing a radiate crown, with curly hair and a short beard. The king is depicted in three-quarter armor with a gorget and pauldron visible, in the Renaissance portrait style typical of Neapolitan coinage of the period. A small mint mark or engraver's symbol appears to the left of the bust in the field. The circumferential Latin legend, partially visible due to the irregular flan, reads PHILIPP • D • G • REX • ARA • VTR •, contained within a beaded or rope inner border. |
