| Obverse description | Central field depicts a frontal figure of a ruler or sovereign enthroned beneath a Gothic architectural canopy with flanking columns and a trefoil arch, rendered in the medieval Genoese tradition. The enthroned figure is shown in regal posture, with arms extended, set within a structured rectangular frame suggestive of a castle gate or palatial facade. The design is enclosed by an inner beaded circle, beyond which the circular legend in Gothic uncial lettering reads G S DUX mELI D IAn, identifying Galeazzo Maria Sforza as Duke of Milan and Lord of Genoa. The flan is irregular and slightly broad, typical of hammered gold coinage of the period, with the design elements showing characteristic relief of mid-15th-century Italian goldsmith work. |
