Additional information

Christian IV's final years were marked by military humiliation — Denmark's defeat in the Torstenson War (1643–45) stripped the kingdom of toll revenues and forced significant territorial concessions to Sweden. This half ducat dates to just two years after that peace, struck as the aging king struggled to stabilize finances that had been in crisis for most of his reign. He died in February 1648, making 1647 issues among the last struck in his name.
