Obverse description A fully armored knight stands three-quarters to the right in the field, wearing a plumed helmet and classical plate armor. In his raised right hand he carries a sword resting against his shoulder, while his left hand holds a ribbon or scroll. At his feet rests a crowned shield bearing the heraldic arms of the Duchy of Gelderland. The design is executed in the baroque provincial style typical of Dutch Republic coinage of the mid-eighteenth century. The Latin legend encircles the effigy, punctuated throughout by floral ornaments.
