Obverse description Fleur-de-lis displayed in the centre of the field, the emblematic device of the French royal arms and the Compagnie des Indes, rendered in a bold, slightly stylised manner consistent with locally produced hammered coinage. The flan is irregular and roughly circular, characteristic of the primitive striking technique employed at the Pondicherry Mint. No legend appears on this side; the fleur-de-lis motif occupies the entirety of the field without a formal border.
