| Obverse description | Within a beaded inner circle, the conjoined cipher of the Republic of Genoa — an ornate interlaced monogram of the letters of DVXETGVB (Dux et Gubernatores) — occupies the central field, with the date (e.g. 1559) inscribed in the lower exergue beneath the device. A dotted border separates the central device from the outer legend, which reads REIP·GENV·DVX·ET·GVB· in Roman capitals around the full circumference, identifying the issuing authority as the Republic of Genoa. |
