Obverse description Facing right bust portrait of Ira Allen, founder of Vermont, rendered in high relief with naturalistic detail to the hair and period costume including a ruffled cravat. The legend UNITED STATES OF AMERICA curves along the upper periphery, while the inscription IRA ALLEN FOUNDER OF VERMONT is distributed across the lower field and rim.
