Obverse description Left-facing draped bust of Liberty wearing a cap adorned with a five-pointed star, with loosely curled hair falling to the neck truncation. A small ornamental device appears at the base of the neck. The circular legend REPUBLIC OF LIBERIA arcs around the upper periphery, with the engraver's initial E visible at the lower rim. The design is bordered by a continuous beaded inner ring.

Reverse description Central design featuring the Liberian national arms: a heraldic shield bearing horizontal stripes and a single five-pointed star in the upper canton, flanked symmetrically by two large tropical palm fronds. A floral spray decorates the base of the composition, with a five-pointed star in each lower corner of the field. The denomination HALF DOLLAR arcs along the upper periphery, and the date 1889 is positioned in the lower exergual area. The entire design is enclosed within a beaded border.
