Obverse description Left-facing bust of Senator Carter Glass, depicted in high relief with a plain truncation, occupying the central field. The legend UNITED STATES OF AMERICA arcs along the upper rim, while LIBERTY appears at the lower left and IN GOD WE TRUST at the lower right of the field. The sitter's name CARTER GLASS is inscribed below the bust near the lower rim. The design was executed by engraver Charles Keck in a restrained, naturalistic portrait style characteristic of the American commemorative series of the 1930s.
