| Obverse description | Three-quarter length equestrian portrait of George Washington in military uniform, facing slightly right, depicted alongside his horse whose head is prominent in the right field. Washington wears an epauletted coat with fine detail rendered in high relief, executed in the neoclassical style by Chief Engraver Elizabeth Jones. The legend GEORGE WASHINGTON arcs along the upper periphery, with the word LIBERTY inscribed in the left field. The commemorative inscription 250TH ANNIVERSARY OF BIRTH · 1982 curves along the lower border, and the engraver's initials EJ appear in the lower central field. |
