| Reverse description | A small, naturalistic eagle displayed with wings spread, perched at center within a wreath of palm and olive branches tied with a ribbon at the base. The eagle is depicted in a somewhat primitive, heraldic style characteristic of early American coinage. The legend UNITED STATES OF AMERICA arcs around the upper and lower periphery of the field. The coin is bordered by dentils, and the reverse die is known in varieties distinguished by the number of leaves beneath the eagle (two or three leaves) as well as an overdate error in STATES. |
