The Valetta series, issued under the Solomon Islands' authority to license commemorative strikes for the European collector market, has no connection to the islands themselves — Valletta, Malta's capital, became a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1980 and served as European Capital of Culture in 2018, which prompted a wave of commemorative issues from various minting programs that year. This piece is part of that commercial wave.
