| Reverse description | Full-field color reproduction of the venerated Byzantine icon of the Black Madonna of Częstochowa (Matka Boska Częstochowska), applied to the rectangular silver-plated surface. The Virgin Mary is depicted in a three-quarter frontal bust, wearing a dark green mantle richly ornamented with golden fleur-de-lis motifs and a jewelled crown, her face bearing the characteristic scars on the right cheek. She is encircled by a large golden halo against a green background, and cradles the Christ Child on her left arm; the Child likewise bears a golden halo and holds a book, rendered in the traditional Byzantine iconographic manner. No inscriptions appear on the reverse. |
