| Obverse description | Left-facing draped bust of Moses Cleaveland, founder of the city of Cleveland, rendered in high relief and occupying the central field. The peripheral legend UNITED STATES OF AMERICA arcs across the upper rim, with the honorific inscription MOSES CLEAVELAND positioned immediately above the portrait. The word LIBERTY is inscribed vertically along the left field, and the denomination HALF DOLLAR curves along the lower rim, flanked by decorative bullet stops.
