The "Times Square Kiss" photograph, taken by Alfred Eisenstaedt on V-J Day in August 1945, has been reproduced so relentlessly that its subjects were disputed for decades — more than a dozen men claimed to be the sailor. The Solomon Islands has issued commemorative pieces under Charles III's effigy since his 2022 accession, continuing the Commonwealth practice of licensing novelty issues to Pacific territories with minimal domestic circulation infrastructure.
