| Reverse description | A cruciform arrangement of four crowned shields occupies the central field, with the Scottish lion rampant at top, the English lions passant guardant at right, the French fleurs-de-lis at bottom, and the Irish harp at left. The interstices between the shields are filled with thistle sprigs and other floral emblems. A crowned royal cipher 'CR' (Carolus Rex) is placed at the centre of the cross. The date 1681 and the peripheral legend · SCO ANG · FR ET · HIB REX · surround the design, identifying Charles II as King of Scotland, England, France, and Ireland. |
