| Obverse description | Facing right draped bust of Booker T. Washington, educator and statesman, occupying the central field with strong sculptural relief. The date and denomination HALF DOLLAR appear to the left of the portrait, with the motto E PLURIBUS UNUM inscribed to the right. The legend UNITED STATES OF AMERICA arcs along the upper periphery, while BOOKER T. WASHINGTON curves along the lower rim.
