Obverse description Brown intaglio print on a lightly tinted ground, with the denomination نصف دينار in large Arabic script at centre, flanked by two circular vignettes: a sunburst guilloche medallion to the left and the Republic arms — a radiate star enclosing an eagle with wheat stalks — in a guilloche roundel to the right. Arabic text panels carry the legal tender clause and the issuing authority's name, البنك المركزي العراقي, while two manuscript signatures of bank officials appear below; the serial number and prefix letter appear at upper right and lower left within the ornamental border.

Reverse description The central vignette presents an intaglio view of the Great Mosque of Samarra with its iconic conical spiral minaret (Malwiya) rising above the surrounding ruins and palm trees against an open sky. The denomination 1/2 DINAR appears in bold letterpress to the left of the central scene, with the bank name CENTRAL BANK OF IRAQ arching across the top in English. Ornate guilloche panels frame the composition on both sides, and the fraction 1/2 is repeated in the upper corners within the decorative border.
