Obverse description Liberty is depicted seated facing left upon a rock, her right hand grasping a pole surmounted by a Liberty cap and her left hand resting on a shield bearing a horizontal striped motif. Thirteen six-pointed stars, representing the original colonies, are arranged around the periphery — seven to the left and six to the right of the central figure. The date appears in the exergue below Liberty. On the later KM#62.2 variety, drapery is added at Liberty's left elbow, refining the overall design. The whole is framed by a beaded border.
