Colombia's half decimo series of 1863–1865 falls squarely within the turbulent early years of the Rionegro Constitution, which had just reorganized the country into the loosely federated United States of Colombia. Federal coinage authority was fragmented, and small silver denominations like this one were struck at Bogotá under conditions of persistent fiscal instability — the national government routinely struggled to maintain consistent bullion supplies throughout the 1860s.
Hernández references 105 and 106 distinguish between the two date varieties, with minor die differences noted between them.
