| Obverse description | Armored bust of Count Frederick of Hedel facing left, wearing a crown and ruff collar, with the date 1578 divided on either side of the effigy in the field. The bust is rendered in the late Renaissance style typical of Netherlandish hammered coinage. A beaded inner circle frames the portrait, with the Latin legend running continuously around the outer border. The inscription reads FRED · C D MO · BA · I · HO · BO · HEDL · D · I · WER, abbreviating the count's full titles and territorial claims. |
