Reverse description Central device consisting of a saltire cross formed by four crowned, interlaced Gothic letters, likely representing the monogram of Philip II, with decorative floral or foliate ornaments filling the angles between the arms of the cross. The denomination value '16 S' (16 Stivers) is inscribed within the central field of the cross. The date 1577 appears prominently in the upper portion of the field above the central device. The circumferential Latin legend PACE ET IVSTITIA encircles the design, proclaiming the motto 'Peace and Justice.' The overall composition is typical of late sixteenth-century Flemish emergency or revolt coinage, with bold, well-centered lettering on an irregularly shaped flan.
