| Obverse description | A large Burgundian cross with flint-and-steel (firesteel) motifs at the terminals occupies the central field, with a crowned firesteel badge at the intersection. The regnal date is divided across the lower two quadrants of the cross. The peripheral legend in Latin reads around the coin in beaded borders, attributing the title of King of Spain and Count of Flanders to Philip II. The hammered flan displays characteristic irregularity in shape and surface texture consistent with mid-16th-century Low Countries minting practice. |
